About Caribbean Island Strip — The Story Behind This Site

Hi, I’m Marco Reyes. And the Caribbean Completely Derailed My Life Plans.

In the best possible way.

I was working a desk job in Miami, saving up for a “someday” trip to Europe, when a friend dared me to use those savings on Aruba instead. I almost said no. I’m glad I didn’t.

I landed in Aruba on a Tuesday afternoon in February, stepped outside the airport, and felt that warm trade wind hit my face for the first time. By Wednesday morning, standing ankle-deep in the clearest water I’d ever seen at Eagle Beach, I had already decided that Europe could wait. Indefinitely.

I came home two weeks later and immediately started planning my next Caribbean trip. Then the one after that. Then the one after that.

That was years ago. Since then, I’ve made it my mission to explore as much of the Caribbean as humanly possible. From the dramatic volcanic highlands of Grenada to the powder-soft shores of Turks and Caicos. I’ve snorkelled the famous walls off Cozumel, eaten jerk chicken at a roadside spot in Tobago that had exactly four plastic chairs and zero online presence, and watched the sun dissolve into the horizon from a guesthouse deck in the US Virgin Islands that I almost didn’t book because the photos looked too good to be true.

They weren’t. The Caribbean has a way of exceeding expectations at every turn.

Why I Built Caribbean Island Strip

Here’s the problem I kept running into: the internet is absolutely flooded with Caribbean travel content, and almost none of it is genuinely useful.

Generic listicles written by people who’ve clearly never left their desks. Sponsored “guides” pushing whatever resort pays the highest affiliate rate. Outdated articles with no sense of what a place actually feels like on the ground. Advice so vague it could apply to any beach destination on the planet.

I got burned by bad information more than once. I booked a hotel that looked stunning in photos and turned out to be 45 minutes from the nearest beach. I showed up on an island during the tail end of hurricane season because a blog casually mentioned the weather was “generally fine.” I spent a full afternoon at a beach that a dozen travel sites called a hidden gem, surrounded by 400 other tourists who’d read the same article.

So I started keeping notes. Tips I wished I’d had before each trip. Mistakes I’d never repeat. Spots that nobody talks about but everyone should visit. Honest takes on islands that are overhyped, and passionate defences of islands that are quietly underrated.

Eventually, those notes became this website.

What Caribbean Island Strip Actually Is

This is not a corporate travel company. I’m not a travel agent. I don’t work for any resort, airline, or tourism board, and nobody pays me to tell you a place is great.

Caribbean Island Strip is my attempt to be the travel friend you wish you had. The one who’s already been everywhere you’re thinking of going gives you the unfiltered truth and tells you exactly what to do and what to skip without an agenda.

Every guide on this site is written with one specific person in mind. You. Sitting there with tabs open, trying to work out which Caribbean island is actually right for your trip. Maybe you’re planning a honeymoon and want somewhere genuinely romantic and secluded. Maybe you’re taking the kids somewhere for the first time, and the last thing you need is a stressful destination. Maybe you’re travelling solo on a budget, or chasing the best scuba diving in the Western Hemisphere, or simply trying to escape winter and sit on a beautiful beach with a cold drink in hand.

There is a Caribbean island for every single version of that person. My job is to help you find yours.

What You’ll Find on This Site

I cover the islands I know best and care about most, including Aruba, Turks and Caicos, Curacao, Grenada, Antigua, Cozumel, the US Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Roatan, and more, with new destinations added as I explore them.

For each island, you’ll find honest hub guides that give you the real picture rather than the glossy brochure version. Beach breakdowns that tell you which shores are actually worth your time and which ones are tourist traps. Accommodation recommendations I would book myself, spanning everything from smart budget guesthouses to genuinely special splurge-worthy resorts. Plain-speaking safety information without the corporate hedging. Month-by-month weather guides so you can time your trip correctly. Day-by-day itineraries are built from real experience rather than a commission structure. And insider tips, the kind that only come from talking to locals and making mistakes so you don’t have to.

A Word on Honesty

I will always tell you when something isn’t worth it. If a famous beach is overcrowded and overrated, I’ll say so clearly. If an island has a genuine safety concern worth knowing about, I’ll address it directly rather than dancing around it. If an all-inclusive resort doesn’t justify the price tag, I won’t pretend otherwise just because it looks good in a photo.

That honesty is the whole point of this site. You are spending real money and real time on this trip. You deserve real, honest information from someone who has actually been there.
