What makes Frigate Bay South special is how sheltered it feels while still being on the southern tip of the island. If Frigate Bay South is for people who want to be alone with their thoughts, Friars Bay is for people who want to be alone with a colorful drink in hand and some good conversation happening nearby. I love this beach precisely because it has energy without feeling chaotic. There are beach bars, there are other travelers, there is music and life happening, but it is never overwhelming.
The sand here is as good as anywhere else on the island, and the water is equally beautiful. What makes Friars Bay distinctive is the atmosphere. The beach bars are well-run, the bartenders remember your name if you come back a second day, and there is a genuine community feel that you just do not get on more remote beaches. I have made friends at Friars Bay that I still stay in touch with, which tells you something about the vibe.

I honestly think Sand Bank Bay is the most underrated beach on Saint Kitts, and I say that knowing full well that promoting it might make it less of a secret. But I would rather give you the actual truth about where to find the best experiences than protect some gatekeeping fantasy of pristine emptiness.
Sand Bank Bay is calm, well-protected, and absolutely beautiful in a way that feels slightly less dramatic than Cockleshell but somehow more intimate. The water is perfect for swimming, the sand is soft and light-colored, and on most days you will have significantly more space than at any other beach I have mentioned.
The reason I think this beach is overlooked is partly logistical. It is on the southeastern side of the island, and most visitors stick to the main tourist beaches on the south and west coasts. The beach itself is beautiful in a understated way. It is not the most visually dramatic beach on the island, but that is actually okay because it works perfectly as a functional family beach. The calm water is honestly the whole point here. On days when the Atlantic side of the island is rough, Majors Bay is still perfectly swimmable.

If the calm water matters more to you than the drama of the scenery, this is a genuinely underrated choice.

Take a car, go early, and bring your own water because the quieter beaches have no facilities at all.
